Aile and Grandmother (2015), Silja Somby, 12 min
O.M.G (Oh Maigon Girl) (2015), Marja Bål Nango, 18 minutter

INFORMATION IN ENGLISH

In "New Sami Visions" you are taken on a journey deep into the heart of Sápmi, through film, live music and food.

Kalle Urheim duo will perform live with a mixture of traditional and modern indigenous music from the Lule-Sámi area.

The short film programme shows the visions of a new generation of Sami filmmakers. Five of the films are part of the collaborative project, "7 Sami Stories", filmed in the village of Kautokeino on the vast tundra. In addition, we show the short film "Northern Great Mountain," directed by south-Sami Miranda Kernell, from the Swedish part of Sápmi. Kernell won awards at Venice Film Festival this autumn for best young director and best European feature film, "Sami Blood". The short film we show is the precursor to the feature film.

The six Sami stories cross many borders, and tell stories that have been kept quiet. You will encounter dark dancing forces that haunt a young reindeer herder, young girls who go on a dangerous hitch hike, and an elderly woman who does not like Sami people, although her native tongue is Sami. You will hear the healing voice of the ancestors, and you will be upset by a true story of priests who burned Sami hats. You will also be amazed by the seemingly impossible love, separated by the forces of nature.

The award-winning Sami chef, Maret Rávdná, who runs Boazovázzi - Reingjeteren ("the reindeer herder") localy, will serve a delicious Sami meal. She is known for taking care of old Sami traditions, and present them with new twist.

The films will be screened with English subtitles:

Aile and Grandmother (2015), Silja Somby, 12 min
O.M.G (Oh Maigon Girl) (2015), Marja Bål Nango, 18 minutes
Burning Sun (2015), Elle Marja Eira, 12 minutes
Sami Boy (2015), Elle Sofe Henriksen, 9 minutes
Northern Great Mountain (2015), Amanda Kernell, 15 minutes
Edith & Alyosha (2015), Ann Holmgren, 8 min

All films except «Northern Great Mountain", which is distributed by The Swedish Film Institute, are distributet by Rein Film.

Om GAMES THEY PLAY

About GAMES THEY PLAY
In the modern, post-industrial society life often seems like a play. People act in mysterious ways regarding love and sorrow, power, status and identity. And sometimes we just act up for fun. Short film programme FILMS FROM THE NORTH: GAMES PEOPLE PLAY addresses this both with drama and humour.

The five films in the program have in common that they explore how humans interact, compete and communicate with each other - through language, gestures and rhetoric. Occasionally things get shouted loud and clear, while in other cases all communications is under the surface. The characters we meet are all confronted and challenged in different contexts.
