Lengde: 1 t. 32 min. Aldersgrense: 15 år.

Pia is 25 years old, after struggling against life issues, she feels desperate by its toughness and have to move back to her family home. Her main goal is to come back for a better start. Sam, her twin brother, still lives at the mom’s house, he doesn’t handle his life the same way his sister does and he rejects it. Who is right, who is wrong ? Between love and anger, emancipation and guilt, HEIS is a blood and a life story : a family tale. With its combination of old and new technology (VHS and HD), with a combination of a hypermodern and nostalgic look, Anais captures the spirit of her generation, children from the 90s and adults from the 2010s, a style she calls "emergency cinema". But Anaïs also explores universal issues and occupations, such as family, guilt, and the daily struggle between our mind, body and heart, hence the Greek word "heis": to become one.

The cross-media project "HEIS" is one of several works that expands the notion of cinema, combining different art expressions and media technologt. The whole project consists of "heis (chroniques)" (90'), a feature film in the cinema, a five-part web television series "pile ou face" (50') and an art installation "_heis (on the wall)" consisting of various media, both physical and digital, which point to both the feature film and the web tv series.

« The themes that Anaïs deals with in her story are essential, important, serious, but the freedom so powerful that the film exudes lightness and grace. Enormous grace. »

Women Occupy Hollywood

« The sensory experience of HEIS brings to mind a house of mirrors, in which each frame introduces a new contextual perspective; adding depth and layers of empathetic qualities

to that which has come before.»

Directors note:

_heis (chroniques) is a two speeds film, two languages dedicated to two generations, youth and parents. This is a love and a anger story, an emancipation and a guilt story, a blood and a life story : a family story.
No matter the period, the country and the language, this theme stays very complicated.

_heis (chroniques) is the mothers’ worrying, the daughters’ desire, the sons’ resignation or maybe the opposite. It’s the salt and the sugar of the brotherhood. The bitterness of intolerance, the sweetness of understanding. The right to go or the duty to stay Families are like elevators, if you mess with the buttons, you can get stuck. But it’s hard not to take it as you can’t go through 80 floors without an elevator.

Director and screenplay: Anaïs Volpé , 2016, France. Starring: Akéla Sari, Matthieu Longatte, Anaïs Volpé, Émilia Derou-Bernal, Alexandre Desane, Laura François, Malec Démiaro. Genre: Drama/ Experimental. Language: French. Distributor: Anaïs Volpé TERRITOIRE(S). Length: 1 hr. 32 min.

Milagros Mumenthalers film "The Idea of a Lake" vil ha sin norske premiere på AMIFF 2017.

Distribusjon: Alina film (Sveits), Ruda cine (Argentina). Milagros Mumenthalers film "The Idea of a Lake" will have its norwegian premiere at AMIFF 2017. It screened at the prestigious International Film Festival Rotterdam (IFFR) 2017. A playful family drama set amongst stunning Argentinian mountains. Inès, a professional photographer, decides to complete a book she is working on before she gives birth to her first child. This photography project, related to the memories of her childhood, always brings her back to the same place: the family home in southern Argentina that shaped her youth and forged her character. It also contains the only photo Inès still has of her father, before he disappeared as a victim of the military dictatorship. This photo is the starting point of a jigsaw puzzle of fragmentary memories and the relationships Inès has with her mother and her brother.

Directors note:

"The Idea of a Lake" comes from the book by Guadalupe Gaona, Pozo de aire (Air Pocket),
an autobiographical work that focuses in the absence of her father, desaparecido in March 1976, during the civilian-military dictatorship in Argentina. In order to respect the book –because of the author, for its subject and due to the effect that it had on me- I knew from the very beginning that the film had to be based in two axes: one, the documented material, and the other one, the memory, where imagination and remembrance mingle and break into the present. This was the basis of the film and throughout all the process of making it, I tried not to betray that spirit. I figured out a protagonist, Inés, who is trying to finish a photo book of his father during the pregnancy of her first child. What ́s going on through her mind? The need of giving answers to her future baby moves her to try to find them herself. In that process, her couple relationship falters and a strong conflict between mother and daughter about the figure of the father desaparecido arises. I tried not to tell the historical-political facts in order to focus on what the father figure leaves and how to live with that absence.

Milagros Mumenthaler

Milagros was born in Argentina in 1977. Her family moved to Switzerland where she grew up. At the age of 17, she returned to her home country to study at the Universidad del Cine in Buenos Aires, graduating in 2004. In 2000, she makes her first short film "Cuándo llega papá?", followed by three more: "El patio" (2003), "Cape Cod" (2003) and "Amancay" (2006). "Abrir puertas y ventanas" (2011), her first feature film, is supported at the writing stage by the Cannes Festival’s Ciné- fondation, and wins the Pardo d’oro at Locarno Film Festival.

Still Night, Still Light er hennes først spillefilm.

In Quebec, Mexico and Asia, three sensitive souls heed the call of the images and melodies that haunt their days and nights. Moved at once by loss, yearning, and longing, Eliane, Romes and his father Pablo decide to take action before it is too late. Whatever the risks, they must let their dreams take flight.

Implicitly trusting that inner voice dwelling inside us all, Sophie Goyette (Le futur proche, La ronde) beckons us on a sensory journey where travel, art, dream, and memory serve as mileposts. Her first feature film blurs the boundary that separates night from day; poetry blooms where these two worlds intersect. As she attentively follows the three characters’ quests, the filmmaker directs our gaze to the magic that seeps from the cracks in daily life. In doing so, she raises universal questions about being human, about what binds us to each other and to reality. Mes nuits feront écho is a bottle that Eliane, Romes or Pablo might have cast adrift: within it, a loving tribute to cinema and its ability to bring back to us what has ceased to be.

Sophie Goyette is a writer and filmmaker of five short films awarded of twelve prizes, in competition in Sundance, Locarno and TIFF Toronto festivals. Still Night, Still Light is her first feature.
