OPEN CALL SPESIAL - KASSASSUK - The Orphan
Kaassassuk - The orphan er en Grøndlandsk animasjonsfilm, laget i et samarbeid mellom barnehjemsbarn fra Uummannaq og den prisvinnende animasjonsfilmskaperen Rikke Hallund i Perlefilm, vinteren og sommeren 2016. Filmen er en 20 minutters stop-motion film basert på det Grøndlandske folkeeventyret med samme navn. Vi følger en foreldreløs fra fødselen til han vokser opp som en frytløs jeger. Som barn er Kassassuk uønsket av jegerne i landsbyen. Fosterfamilien forteller Kassassuk at han må reise ut for å finne den store Ånd, for kun ånden kan gi ham den styrken han trenger for å bli en god jeger. Kassassuk vender tilbake etter en lang reise til landsbyen med nye krefter. Men det blir opp til Kassassuk å avgjøre hvordan han skal bruke sim styrke og kraft. Vil han søke hevn?
Barna har deltatt i hele prosessen, kreativt og kunsnterisk, med musikk, sang, animasjon, setdesign. Lydsporet inkluderer strupesang og trommer gjort av Innuiter. Videre er filmen laget med kun autentiske materialer fra Grønland, fra unike samlinger av Grøndlandsk kunst og håndtverk, perler, klør fra isbjørner, fjær og til og med is, alt mikset sammen med barnas egne tegninger og illustrasjoner.
Rikke Hallund er grunnlegger av Perlefilm- et uavhengig produksjonsselskap. Hun lager film for barn med barn. Hun er en prisvinnende manusforfatter. Rikke og Perlefilm produserer utdannende animasjonsfilm og applikasjoner til netbrett. Det støttes av utdanningsetaten i Danmark.

The children from the orphanage have participated in all aspects of the creative and artistic processes such as music, singing, animation, characters and background designs. The soundtrack also includes original Inuit throat singing and drumming. The movie is made entirely with authentic Greenlandic materials and a unique collection of traditional Greenlandic arts and crafts e.g. pearls, claws from polar bears, furs, tupilak, designs and even ice all mixed with the children’s own drawings and illustrations. We follow an orphan from his birth and later outcast till he grows up as a fearless hunter. As a child Kaassassuk is unwanted by the hunters in the village. His foster family tells Kaassassuk that he must go and meet the Great Spirit, hence only the spirit can give him strength to become a great hunter. Kaassassuk returns after a long journey to the village with new great powers. But it is up to Kaassassuk to determine how to use the strength and power – will he seek revenge?
Rikke Hallund is founder of Perlefilm - an independent production company. Rikke was also founder and principal (10 years) of Hundested Filmschool (Closed 2015). Rikkes concept is movies for kids with kids. As script writer she was awarded with the Orla Prize in 2010. (DK children litterature) Rikke and Perlefilm produces educational animation movies and applications for tablets funded by the Ministry of Education in animation movies and applications for tablets funded by the Ministry of Education in Denmark.
