Tone Elvebakk
Tone Elvebakk was born and raised in the Sami village of Duorga/Snubba in Evenes municipality.
Tone works as a museum consultant at the Várdobáiki Sami Centre, and works to promote Sami history, language and culture. She has the main responsibility for Galleri Vardobáiki. Over the years, she has initiated and carried out many projects under the auspices of Várdobáiki.
Examples of projects are;
· Identity, sexuality and health - with Sami children and young people as target group
· Árbediehtu; documentation of Sami farming
· Photos and stories, Sami everyday life 100 years ago, documentation project
· Created the dolls Elle and Ándá and wrote and published 4 books about them together with Janne Olsby
· Outsider Art exhibition with Sami artists and publication of the catalogue: Oainnát go MU? Do you see me? Do you see me? in collaboration with Trastad Collections - National Center for Outsider Art
· Tore Hund's cardigan - which became Tore Hund's čehporis. Project anchored in the National Jubilee 2030 - Norway for 1000 years
Ever since she was a child, she has been interested in creating with her hands, and gradually focused more and more on Sami duodji. She is also employed as a duodje consultant at the Duodjeinstituhtta, and has the whole of Nordland as her catchment area. In 2023, the traveling exhibition The Sami bride's headdress/silbarahka from ancient times to the present was completed, of which she was a part.
