Sami film has seen remarkable growth in recent years, especially after the establishment of a Sami film center in Kautokeino in 2007. The growth includes a marked increase in the number of film productions and female directors. The increased production volume has given variation in the film narratives. This collection of recent films reflects on Sami identity.
During this year's AMIFF, film and media scientist Monica Mecsei will look at how different perspectives on historical and cultural points of view establish different types of meeting points that weave together past and present. Monica Mecsei will give lectures and show a program of Sami films, where the directors are invited and participate in Q&A after the screenings.
